Microsoft event 2023: Surface Laptop Go 3 announced!

Calling the new Surface Laptop Go 3 ultra-light and portable, Microsoft reveals a starting price of $799. It will feature a 15-hour-long battery. It gets a 12-inch display and 4 different colors. “It is 88% faster than original,” the invitees were told.

Microsoft also gave a demo of video editing on the new laptop.

Microsoft Surface event: Microsoft 365 new features

Microsoft 365 Copilot will be available for enterprise customers starting November 1. The copilots can do a bunch of stuff on various apps. It can summarize the day’s emails and catch you up in minutes, and it has contextual writing so you do not miss the essence of what was said to you.

It can also search the internet for you and find you relevant results. You can also see the source of the answers in its footnotes for further reference.

Copilot “Understands constraints and thinks through options to solve your problem,” said Colette Stallbaumer, general manager of Microsoft 365, as per TechRadar.

Microsoft Surface event 2023: New features for Bing and Edge

Back to Copilots, Bing AI is getting personalized results. This means that it will only show you results that are relevant to you. It also accepts photos as input. So you can show it a power adapter and it will tell you if it will work in another country or not.

Bing AI in Edge will also help you find coupons when you are shopping. That’s definitely going to be the go-to hack for shoppers in 2024. It will also help you find best deals across different sites.

Bing Search is also getting a powerful new tool called Personalized Answers. Basically, AI will use your search history to find better results. Creepy, but also useful.

Bing Chat Enterprise is also getting a new suite of features in the Edge mobile app.

Microsoft Surface event: Windows 11 new features, CoPilots announced

Yusuf Mehdi takes the stage and announces new features for Windows 11. He starts with talking about CoPilots. CoPilots will now be available on Windows 11 Desktop at a single click. It won’t be added as an app, but added to the entire Windows 11 experience. This means all the different copilots on Microsoft apps will be available together in a seamless way for you to use. It will be released on Windows 11 on September 26.

Apart from that, Windows 11 is getting an improved MS Paint app, a new Outlook app, and more.

Ink Anywhere feature is also coming. It’s a unique one. “Write a complex math equation into text field and get answers. You can use the pen to snip a photo of a math problem,” says Carmen Zlateff, VP of product management.

AI integration will be added to Paint app, Snipping Tool, Photos app, Outlook and more. Microsoft is going all out with AI, and we believe it is going to change the way we use Windows 11.

Microsoft event: Satya Nadella launches CoPilot for public

Microsoft CEO said, “Today we’re announcing CoPilot, our vision for everyday AI companion for you.

Highlighting his vision, he said CoPilot will be built into all major Microsoft products such as Bing, Windows, Office, and more, as per TechRadar.

“We believe Copilot will fundamentally transform our relationship with technology,” said Nadella.

Microsoft Surface event: Satya Nadella on breakthroughs in AI

In his speech, the Microsoft CEO highlighted two specific breakthroughs in AI – a new natural interface and reasoning engine, as per Tom’s Guide. These two changes have enabled computers to make sense or people, places, and things.

And Microsoft wants to add copilots in this mix to act as an assistant for a user’s all professional or personal needs.

Microsoft event 2023: Surface event begins

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has taken the stage. According to Tom’s Guide, the event starts with Nadella speaking about the company’s AI ventures and various initiatives it has undertaken in 2023.

Microsoft Bing, the AI chatbot, gets a special mention as it was one of the earliest AI products to be launched in public and integrated with the Bing search engine.

Is Microsoft Product Chief headed for Amazon?

According to a Bloomberg report, the former Microsoft chief product officer Panos Panay is headed for Amazon after serving the company for almost two decades.

He is rumored to run the division responsible for the voice-activated Alexa assistant and Echo smart speakers, according to people familiar with the situation.

Panay’s move marks the latest senior executive swap between the two companies. Two years ago, Microsoft hired senior Amazon cloud executive Charlie Bell to run its cybersecurity efforts. That initially raised the possibility that Amazon might file suit because Bell had signed an agreement prohibiting him from joining a rival. But the two companies reached a pact that allowed Bell to make the move.

Microsoft event: Ahead of the Surface event, Microsoft chief product officer leaves the company

Microsoft’s chief product officer Panos Panay is stepping down after nearly two decades at the company, as per a report by AP. The information was sourced from a staff memo on Monday.

“Under Panos’ leadership, the team created the iconic Surface brand with loved products,” said the message to employees from Rajesh Jha, executive vice president of Microsoft’s experiences and devices group.

“After 19 incredible years at Microsoft, I’ve decided to turn the page and write the next chapter,” said a social media post from Panay on X, formerly Twitter. He didn’t say what his next undertaking would be. But it is expected to be Amazon, as per rumors.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 event: What about its memory and battery life

The report also suggests that Microsoft might let you have up to 64GB of memory in this new laptop, which is double what the previous version offered. Plus, you’ll have the option to use microSD cards and a USB Type-A connector.

When it comes to battery life, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is rumored to have a 58Wh battery that can last up to 19 hours on a single charge. It’s getting some new color choices, but the outside design remains mostly the same.

The leaks suggest that the product should be available starting from October 3, with a starting price of 2,249 euros (about Rs. 2 lakh) for the base model.

Microsoft Surface event: Power and Graphics Options in Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2

People looking to buy the Surface Laptop Studio 2 can pick between two processors: the Core i7-13700H and the Core i7-13800H. These processors are quite powerful, with 14 cores and 20 threads. If you’re into graphics, you can choose between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 or RTX 4060. But if you don’t need a fancy graphics card, you can go for the base model, which comes with Intel’s integrated Iris Xe GPU.

Microsoft Surface event 2023: Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 display and hardware leak

But before the big event, a report from the German blog WinFuture.de gives us a sneak peek at what the Surface Laptop Studio 2 will pack. This new computer will have a 14.4-inch screen, which is similar to the previous version, and it will look extra smooth with its 120Hz refresh rate and 2400 x 1600 resolution.

Microsoft Surface event: What about the Surface Laptop Go 3?

The Surface Laptop Go 3 won’t undergo major changes. Photos leaked by WinFuture reveal a design nearly identical to its predecessor. Expect minor spec bumps, particularly with Intel’s 12th-generation CPUs, like the Intel Core i5-1235U. The display and 8GB of RAM will remain the same, resulting in a price increase, likely around $780.

Microsoft event 2023: AI, Microsoft services and more

Beyond hardware, we anticipate Microsoft discussing enhancements coming to Windows 11 and other Microsoft services like Excel, Outlook, and Word. Expect a strong emphasis on “AI,” building on Microsoft’s earlier efforts like Bing with ChatGPT.

Microsoft is experimenting with chatbots powered by large language learning models (LLM) and their own data in apps and services. For instance, Windows 11 Copilot is being tested by early adopters in the Windows Preview Program and may receive a final release window during this event.

Microsoft is also introducing a new chip design called “Meteor Lake,” featuring discrete slices of silicon for the CPU, GPU, and VPU (a specialized processing unit for AI tasks). This chip design is expected to usher in subtle but significant AI improvements in Windows laptops by the end of this year.

Microsoft event 2023: Surface Duo no longer supported

While Microsoft is planning to unveil several new devices at the Surface event, it recently withdrew support for a device it launched just 3 years ago – the Surface Duo. On September 12, the tech giant announced that starting now, there won’t be any more big software updates, and Android 12L will be the final version. At the launch of the Surface Duo, Microsoft promised Android updates and security fixes for up to three years, and it seems to have held true to its word, but astonishingly the device has only received two major updates so far, which is less than what most Android devices get.

Microsoft event 2023: Surface Go 4 to get a slew of upgrades

Apart from laptops, Microsoft is also highly focussing on tablets this year, in the form of Surface Go 4. Just like the Surface Laptop Go line, Surface Go tablets offer an entry-level option with a lightweight design. The Surface Go 4 is expected to maintain the Go 3’s form factor while focusing on internal upgrades. A common complaint about the Go 3 was its poor battery life and subpar performance due to the Intel Core i3-10100Y processor. Microsoft may remedy this by offering two variants: Intel-based and ARM-based, similar to the Surface Pro 9. Thanks to cost-efficient ARM integration, the Surface Go 4 could potentially feature 5G connectivity and improved battery life.

Microsoft event 2023: Know what may come with the Surface Studio 2

One exciting rumor surrounds the new Surface Laptop Studio 2. Leaks from the German blog WinFuture suggest that Microsoft will unveil this laptop with improved components and additional ports. The Studio 2 will retain its innovative sliding screen design and gain new ports, such as a USB-A port and microSD card reader. Under the hood, it’s expected to pack a 13th-generation Intel Core i7-13800H hybrid CPU and Nvidia RTX 4050 or RTX 4060 GPUs. These enhancements promise better multitasking performance and improved ray tracing support, Tom’s Guide reported.
